ok i have to start a thread about this musical. i saw it on Broadway after everyone raved about it and it's such good fun. I also got to see a great cast in action. I wish i had seen Shoshana Bean and Harvey Weinstein..but we can't see everyone. There have been rumours of it opening in the West End in FORVER..but we can wait and see...BUT..the movie is coming out this summer in the USA and i can't wait...i hope it's as good as the show itself www.hairspraymovie.com/and the cast recording..well again i have to rave about that cuz it has some great tunes. i'm loving "i'm a big girl now" "good morning baltimore" and the current tune on myspace "You can't stop the beat" Rave over ;D ;D

I've already informed Mark that I'm coming to London to see it! NO OPTION!! I love the soundtrack too and even he sings along to a couple of the songs so I think I won't have too much trouble persuading him

Michael Ball as Edna? Hmmmm I would rather that Harvey Fierstein had brought it over! I would LOVE to see him onstage

I was chatting to one of the backstage guys at WWRY on Saturday and apparently Rachael Wooding who is currently playing "Meatloaf" will be joining the cast of Hairspray.

Yes i'm not sure about Michael Ball, I would much rather have Harvey, but hey we can't have it all. I'll still go and watch the show ;D

I saw the movie last night and It was soooo good i had to literally sit on my hands to stop myself from clapping at the end of every song. The transition from screen to stage to screen was pretty much flawless. The casting was great. John Travolta was fab, but Nikki totally owned the movie. I can hear the bells was one tune i wasn't a big fan of when i saw the show, however in the movie..it was just done so well and might be my favourite scene. And James Marsden aka Cyclops in xmen playing Corny..hello?? i didn't know he had a hidden talent for singing. I have to say it was awesome. The best part was leaving...listening to people rave about it...i left with a big grin. Yes, Thank God for Hairspray for giving movie musicals a good name. I think I'll go and buy the movie soundtrack.
Go see it!

I saw the movie yesterday too. I absolutely adored it. I loved every song in it, although I might have nightmares about John Travolta in drag for some time! I'm definately going to buy the cast recording. I may also have to put my dislike of Michael Ball aside and go to see the forthcoming west end show.

Am sure Michael Ball will look (and be in general) great - anyone seen him in WIW in his fat suit? He was the only great thing about that awful musical! And actually no-one will EVER look as good as Divine as Edna!

And actually no-one will EVER look as good as Divine as Edna! i don't know as i never saw him, but i hear Harvey Weinstein was something amazing . ;D anyhoo wanna hear my hairspray confession? when i went to see it, i got front row, i got lottery tickets literally two hours after i landed in NYC. Anyhoo, so next to me this guy was doing all the moves, and getting into it... i later found out he was Joe, the swing. At the end for you can't stop the beat and the curtain call, this kid and i mean he was no older than 12 was standing up by himself giving the cast a standing ovation..and encouraging everyone to get up and applaud the cast. He looked right at me, but i stayed seated. Poor kid! WHAT!!?? i was tired i had been up 27 hours straight.....ok it's no excuse but he was the only one standing cuz Joe had disappeared. Poor kid on his jacks! But fair play to him...looking back and having been in the exact same position as him i felt bad. Especially after seeing the movie...that kid knew what he was doing!! and that is my confession.... ;D ;D shame on me

Jazz! I'm shocked but you'd be just the same if it was MM... God I wish I knew the MM movie would be as good as Hairspray is but I have severe reservations!
Hairspray was fanbloodytastic!! I wanted to scream and shout and applaud after the songs, I loved John Travolta he was so funny and Michelle Peiffer, what a witch!!!

yes i was shocked at myself..but me without sleep for 27 hours is not the happiest of people! yes i was thinking the same about the MM movie. Hairspray is flying the flag right now for movie musicals, it's getting rave reviews and so i know people who have never been to the theatre in their lives but have seen the movie and love Hairspray! i'm going to try to aviod juding the mm movie until i see it!
anyhoo Hairspray..you are right is fanbloodytastic. Michelle Pfeiffer was great! Christopher Walken and even Zac from High School musical were highly impressive. Can't fault the casting at all. i love it...i think the show's going to be selling even more tickets after the movie's success.
