There is talk of plans being underway that are being made for a new movie version of the popular musical the South Pacific that is going to keep the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein songs, but is going to rework the script. It is a adaptation of the James Michener's Tales of the South Pacific, which is a musical that has been set on an island during the second World War. It revolves around two couples – a US Navy nurse named Nellie Forbush and a French plantation owner named Emile de Becque, and a Navy Airman named Joe Cable and a beautiful young local girl named Liat. It had previously been also made into a film back in the late fifties, and had starred Mitzi Gaynor and Rossano Brazzi. It has been reported that the South Pacific is going to be making a comeback to the movie theaters after almost five decades. Further it has also been said that plans are underway so that the original classic songs can be kept whereas the story is going to be updated with a "harder-edge." Variety has quoted Balaban as saying that their movie is not only going to be a tougher but is going to be a more realistic retelling of the same classic story. It will include the same characters whose love for each other emerges above all the cultural differences that get in their way. He said that the audience is going to fall in love with its magical score and also with its updated vesion and the exotic locale. Get your cheap south pacific tickets before they sold out.
