Seeing this show without Graham was always going to be an 'interesting' experience and the two shows I attended were definitely interesting...
On Friday night due to several absentees in the cast it seemed like I was watching a different show almost. I gave Marc Leslie (graham's understudy) the benefit of the doubt and while he played the role as it is written it, for me lacked the natural cheekiness that Graham bring's to the role and some of the spark that I think Eddie has was missing... just my opinion. Special mention must go to Dylan Turner, who was a great Sky and gets the biggest round of applause I could give for managing to continue the Lay All Your Love On Me routine sans swimming trunks Poor boy later confessed that he'd actually forgotten to put them on under his trousers and instead was merely wearing his underwear in public until he could pull on his wetsuit.... Memo to Dylan don't EVER do that when Graham is around cos knowing that guy's sense of mischief he'll take the wetsuit away an you'll never get it back
Rachel Spry made a great Donna and Graham Vick was an excellent Bill, the Caledonian Cassanova (as they gave him a Scottish accent) The show was fab and everyone seemed to have a great night and afterwards I (with the other girls) had a chance to chat with Joseph, Ben, Gareth Chart and Dylan which again was fab
Last night I went to the show again and many of the cast were back in their 'proper roles'. I was pleased to see that they were still doing well and that the change in personnel didn't seem to affect them adversely at all. Marc still seemed to be that one inch below Graham's "Eddie" but again it was Dylan who Fate has it in for as during the finale he did a split jump and split his trousers!!! Another great night and although I know I would have had an even better night with Graham in the cast the people in the theatre who watched the show all seemed to love it.
