After having been barred from joining the public offices, the military, and several other occupations, the Jews managed to earn a decent living as textile traders, physicians and money lenders. Hence to date when several people think of Venice it conjures in their mind the notions of Shylock, that had been a popular Jewish character from Shakespeare’s novel titled “The Merchant of Venice.” As for the Public Theater production of Shakespeare's respective play that is “The Merchant of Venice” it had featured the Academy Award winner Al Pacino and it is going to make its official debut on Broadway at the venue of the Broadhurst Theatre on the 7th of November. Pacino is going to reprise his performance as the character of Shylock in the Daniel Sullivan staging of the drama, which had recently also been viewed during Shakespeare. This had been in the Parth in the previous summer. Merchant is going to start its Broadway previews from 19th October onwards. It is going to be a limited Broadway engagement comprised of 78 performances that is going to continue up till the 9th of January in the next year that is 2011. Broadway In Chicago has made an announcement regarding the complete 2011 spring season. Amongst the shows that will be coming to Chicago next year are Carrie Fisher’s “Wishful Drinking" and the "Merchant of Venice." The Merchant of Venice as has been aforementioned is a critically acclaimed hit from Shakespeare and is making transference to Broadway for a limited time period.
