Variety was the one who reported it first - of course everyone would report it as it is THE press source! But it doesn't mean that it is official! it was even all over the news here! Official means there is a statement from Tom Hanks's production company or from Meryl Streep's agent or herself etc. And she is FAR TOO OLD for the role of Donna, Donna is early 40s, if they tell Lucy that she is too young to take over full time, then am saying Meryl Streep should not get it first of all for that! and Meryl even does not look like in her 40s! One essential fact of Donna's past is that she was a young single mum who was disowned by her very own mother. Not very believable when you have someone on screen who looks like mid 50!

well...i kinda hope the news is wrong...not that i don't like meryl...i just really don't want to see her in that part... my choice for the role...lucy harris! ha ha ha...you knew i'd say that right?! but since it appears they are going to use american actors (just a guess since that is what has been in most of the "rumors") i guess we'll be getting hollywood stars in this movie...i have rather mixed feelings about it really...i just hope tom hanks come through and gives us a good movie and doesn't ruin it...

Wow...at this rate, the actress playing Sophie will be about 40 and Donna and the Dynamos will look more like the "Golden Girls"...I'm scared, but still holding out hope...

I love under attack!! And Knowing me knowing you. my comments today pfft i still say Hugh Jackman should play Bill, he can sing and act!!

Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep??? How weird!!! Are we not in a bit of a cradle-snatching phenomenon here? Whoever is cast, I'm sure it will be a massive success, but I have to say that your Hugh Jackman suggestion was top notch! ;D Under Attack is one of my favourite parts of the show though and if they cut that, I will be mortified!!! Could live without TYFTM, but I also love KMKY and was looking forward to Pierce brooding over that one! Oh, woe is me!

Hey Jazz, you might be able to help me out here... I heard a rumour that some little-known singer (I don't really know her, she's called Cher or something ) was up for the part of Tanya. What's happening there?

I read they are going to cut three songs from the movie TYFTM, KMKY and Under Attack. No idea why they are cutting those songs. We'll probably have to wait until the movie gets released and see how it works out. (See, I'm trying to stay positive ;D ) My biggest beef right now is WHY WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER!!! !!! Hairspray opened simultanteously in the UK, USA...why do we have to wait 4 months until it opens in the UK? I studied media and I get the whole opening a movie thing. I don't get why MM isn't having a Summer opening here. In this day and age, and i don't know if i can say it on a forum, but is there any point in delaying an opening for a "Big movie" with today's technology. There undoubtedly will be websites where you can watch it within days of it opening in the USA anyway. So why wait to open it?

I read they are going to cut three songs from the movie TYFTM, KMKY and Under Attack. Under Attack is the dream sequence at the beginning of act 2, isn't it? It's understandable that they're cutting those ones. They can pretty much be covered by a couple of lines of dialogue, and don't need to be kept in for comedy value. I'm really looking forward to seeing Julie Walters' rendition of Take a Chance. When you say November, do you mean November 2007 or 2008?

When you say November, do you mean November 2007 or 2008? 2008 - release date for the UK is according to IMDB 28 November 2008. My biggest beef right now is WHY WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER!!! Maybe for the same reason why Hairspray just opens here in September? There are already several big movies announced for summer 2008 - maybe they do not want them opening around the same time as Mamma Mia in the UK - the reason e.g. why it "just" opens in Germany in September and not in July/August is because these two months are the worst months for the movie business with people being on holidays. Even blockbusters do not do as well as if released later in the year - and with Hairspray they wanted to avoid losing out to the blockbusters. After all the movie business is, as any business, ultimately about earning money not about art. Certainly the are some technologies which gives you a chance to see movies before (this way I could see Hairspray before opening here and realised I am not going to waste money on seeing it at the cinema), but if a few hundred watch a bootleg and 30% more go to see it when in the cinema in November than during summer, the calculation and the decision when to open that movie is easy.
