article on Sarah lark: icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/news/cardiff-news/2008/03/25/we-know-our-girl-will-sing-like-a-lark-to-be-nancy-91466-20670031/‘We know our girl will sing like a Lark to be Nancy’ Mar 25 2008 by Ben Glaze, South Wales Echo ‘We know our girl will sing like a Lark to be Nancy’ ‘We know our girl will sing like a Lark to be Nancy’ THE family of I’d Do Anything finalist Sarah Lark today spoke of their pride in seeing her wow viewers of the BBC1 show. Speaking for the first time about their daughter’s success, dad Billy and mum Bev said being cast as Nancy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s West End production of Oliver! would be a dream come true for Sarah. Bev, 47, said: “Sarah has always wanted to be Nancy, she loves the role and it’s her favourite. Musically it’s right for her and suits her voice. “This is what she’s worked for all these years. She’s one of the happiest people you will ever meet, she’s funny, cheerful, bubbly and optimistic. “She’s also a grafter, a real worker.” Sarah, 25, has already spent nine years living in London working in West End shows. But it was sitting at home watching television with her parents which first inspired her to seek stardom. Bev, a teaching assistant at Roath Park Primary School, said: “We were watching the Royal Variety Show when she was about nine and there was a boy singing and dancing on there. Sarah said, ‘How do I get to do that?’” Her parents, of Roath, Cardiff, discovered the Variety Show children were pupils of the Italia Conti Stage School, which ran week-long summer camps. Bev and Billy signed up their young daughter. Civil servant Billy, 54 said: “They really encouraged her, they were wonderful.” Sarah also became a member of various amateur dramatic societies and youth theatres, including the Unknown Theatre Company, Rhiwbina Youth Theatre and the Rhondda-based Selsig Theatre. One of her first big roles came when she was 14. The former Cardiff High School pupil, who gained a distinction in a post-graduate course at the Royal Academy of Music, starred in a Dutch advert to raise awareness of asthma, a condition from which she suffers. She also appeared as Peter Pan in a show at the Howardian Centre, Penylan, in Annie and the Wizard of Oz, and in the 1994 pantomime Babes in the Wood at Cardiff’s New Theatre. When she was 16 the family moved to London so Sarah could follow her ambitions. They returned 18 months later when younger brother David was due to start school and Sarah turned 18. Billy said: “It was hard work but Sarah couldn’t go on her own and you support your children. As soon as she was established we came back. “It has been a non-stop rollercoaster ride. This is her chance to show she’s grown up and is ready for an adult role. This could be her breakthrough into a leading lady role.” The Larks are now preparing for Saturday’s trip to London for the prime-time live show and, if she makes it through to the following week, it will be an extra special occasion for David and Billy – who have tickets to Cardiff City’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. David, 10, seen cheering on his big sister in a Cardiff City shirt last Saturday, said: “I’m really excited, I think my sister can win. She’s the best!”

I do not understand why people keep going on and on about Sarah's height, not here, but in other forums. Height never seemed to stop Linzi Hateley, the cream of the cream of the West End. Does that mean Linzi should not have been kept as Donna because the new Sophie is a lot taller? As Tanya, the Dynamo, would say '... OH PLEASE!!!..."
Sarah will be Nancy, if there is any justice in this process.

Does that mean Linzi should not have been kept as Donna because the new Sophie is a lot taller? I see what you mean!! Well in the real world, lots of daughters are taller than their mother, so i dont see a problem...? So it shouldnt me a problem that Sarah isnt that tall?

Bad News:
Sarah Lark has gone. The sing off tonight is between Rachel and Sarah and ALW goes for Sarah.
What a travesty considering what's left....nuff said on that.
Anyhoo Sarah deserves better and I'm sure with her talent we'll see her in a show soon!!

Is the public smarter than a 10 year old? Clearly NOT. The Olivers picked Sarah.......

well i'm not going to bother watching the sing off. As I think the results are a TRAVESTY! WHat the heck is it with these recent reality show vote results??? just the other week David Cook got voted off American Idol..PFT! that made headlines! Maybe global warming is affecting people's ability to judge talent? who knows. Well, i'm currently watching Bill O' Reilly interview Senator Hillary Clinton on Fox - Far better and more interesting viewing IMHO.
And what's with Rachel being in the sing off too?? She was one of the other better performers on the show. She was my other fave on the show, It's hard to believe that more people voted for Nieve??? what do i know? I'd be interested to see the actual vote percentage that put Sarah and Rachel at the bottom two, I've just lost all interest in the show now. There's no point watching as IMO the talent has gone. NOPE.

I was sorry that it was those 2 in the sing-off but Rachel is actually my 2nd fave so was happy she got through. Niamah, Ashley or Samantha should have gone way before Sarah

Let’s talk fair trade for a second, shall we. This competition was rigged from day one. How do I know this, simple. When the girls went to Andrews’s small country cottage to shine his boots, he let something slip in his discussions with Jessie that to a trained eye, speaks volumes about his motives and pettiness. The Lord went way out of his way to ask Jessie if it was true that she had been rejected not once, but three times from drama school! I suppose it never occurred to him that she was rejected because her smile is where her jaw should be with a cartoon accent thick enough to make a Leprechaun blush. Aha, I could see the rusty gears in his small, slightly egg shaped head, churning away and knew exactly what he was thinking. “Here’s my perfect opportunity to silence my drama school critics who snipe that I am undermining the whole theatrical training system by bypassing the drama schools and taking my cast selection process to the general public.” “This way, with seemingly clean hands, I can play the helpless host, at the mercy of the general public.” Never mind that the Lord: 1. Picks unflattering songs, (sometimes in the wrong key), choreography and camera angles 2. Allows himself and the judges to work with the girls and then has the temerity to admit he gave Sarah bad advice by having her sing to the cameras instead of the audience! Are we to believe that John (who only gets excited when congratulating himself as the “Isle of Sam’s” tutor), Barry, (who can’t stop mentally undressing the “Isle of Sam” long enough to formulate one coherent argument), and Denise who oscillates from standing ovations for Sarah one week to “not Nancy” the next were not privy to what Andrew was working with Sarah on? Please? Are we also to believe that the Lord is so inexperienced in coaching young talent, talent he previously gushed over like a schoolgirl one week, then unwittingly misled the next? 3. Contradicts himself at every turn. Paula Abdul is more coherent and believable when she thinks she hears two songs when only one was sung. 4. I know Barry Humphrey’s should be allowed out of the dementia clinic for some fresh air, but why let him wander week in, week out, onto the same set?
Spare me. If you think this competition was not rigged from the outset, then I’d love to sell you some beautiful council housing at great discount prices in the best neighborhood, personally refurbished by Ken Livingston and Jimmy Carter.

I know Barry Humphrey’s should be allowed out of the dementia clinic for some fresh air, but why let him wander week in, week out, onto the same set? They have to do something to justify the show's hair dye budget. I missed the results show but couldn't believe it when I found out that Sarah was out but, now she's in the public eye, I'm sure its not going to be long before she's in a good role in a show as happened to the "Marias" and "Josephs" previously.
