Row A is dangerous, you're in the firing line for spitballs, water flicking ;D, and pretty much everything else ;D Please DO NOT give Graham any ideas of what to do with water when I'm in the vicinity.... All you do is plant a seed et voila he's off up to mischief again

I don't know if I have posted this message in the wrong section, but here goes.
I have been looking through some old West End Theatre musical programmes that belong to my parents and I came across a Mamma Mia programme for the original previews of the show back in 1999.
The interesting thing is that the opening scenes are different to what are in the show now. In this old programme they actually do a breakdown of the songs as they appear in the show as oppose to the existing programme which just list them in alphabetical order.
Anyway this is how the show opened:
Prologue: I Have A Dream (Sophie)
Scene One: Summer Night City (The Company) Just Like That (Sophie, Sky) Money, Money, Money (Donna, Rosie, Tanya, Pepper and The Company)
Scene Two: Honey, Honey (Sophie, Lisa - but no mention of Ali)
The rest of the show is exactly as it is today.
I have no idea why they dropped Summer Night City & Just Like That from the list of musical numbers before the premiere on 6th April 1999, but they clearly did because neither of these songs feature on the original cast recording which was produced that year.
For the record the fabulous Siobhan McCarthy (who also starred as Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers as well as numerous other roles) played Donna Sheridan and a certain Nigel Harman (whatever happened to him!) played Eddie.
By the way, visits 7 & 8 for me are getting closer. Monday 24th April - 7.30pm & Saturday 29th April - 3.00pm.

Yeah, they dropped these songs, quite common that things get changed during previews. Catherine Johnson plus the others would watch every show of the preview I would imagine and felt these songs and scenes just didn't feel right. Even though no song has been dropped since the opening, Catherine Johnson still does rewrites of the script from time to time, often when the show is to open somewhere and she has new ideas! The show I saw in 2002, was different to the one we see these days with script changes, choreography changes....
