FAO Iain: Completely forgot to mention that so far that Sophia was at Mary Poppins on Saturday watching the show with her mum and her two nieces - saw her at the stage door after the matinee I had been to with two friends as they were waiting for Scarlett as the two girls wanted to meet Mary Poppins. She looked so well - wearing a stunning white summer dress! It was a delight to see her!

Martin Ball is posting a diary of his experiences with the "Wicked" rehearsals and he tells a cute story about Sophia when they were together in Mamma Mia. It's in the "Week Two" section of the diary. www.wicked.lastminuteliving.com/By the way, his "Wicked" diary is very interesting as he explains how the show comes togehter from the first day of rehearsals.

Iain, not sure whether Jazz told you but Ms Ragavelas was off yesterday (friend of mine was devastated),but guess where I bumped into her - at the Apollo, looking so well and stunning - she should be back today!

Lucky me - she was back on Thursday (that was more than a day off as she said on Monday!)!! Really liked her as Fantine, she made me cry! Kerry Ellis last year did never! And she was so sweet when I saw her briefly at the stage door - glad I went to see Les Mis!

I want to go see Sophia in Les Miserables, but I am so scared she will not be there.
I saw the 10th anniversary on DVD and did not like it at all, boring..........
But I want to see Sophia, so I will make the sacrifice, if she is not there I will be stuck.
Better think about what I am asking for. Mamma Mia....... or Boring Town..............

I'm really pleased that you liked her as Fantine and also that she's winning the hardcore Les Mis fans round too after some criticism on Les Mis forums of her early performances in the role. After reading some of their comments, the next time I saw the show I'd never been more nervous watching a performer - I was sat there when she was on stage thinking "Go on girl, you can do this, you will blow their socks off and prove 'em wrong!!" - and she is doing!

I listened to most of the concert. Sophia sounded fantastic. Then I had to go out and I missed the last twenty minutes But, I was lucky enough to be at the recording last month (I don't remember all that whooping and cheering for every song - I'm sure they've dubbed some Wicked audience noises in there!), and the awesome Les Mis 21st birthday show on Saturday night! I'm posting this stage door picture from Saturday here because, well for no reason, other than I think it's it a wonderful picture

Sorry if this is off-topic ... I saw the November 29 matinee of "Les Miserables" and, of course, enjoyed Sophia's performance very much. If you go to the show keep a sharp eye out - in addition to playing Fantine, SR also is on stage as part of the ensemble.
I sat in the 3rd row of the Stalls and I'm sure I saw her late in the 1st Act (after Fantine dies) and numerous times in the 2nd Act. Of course Sophia returns as Fantine late in the 2nd Act. The times I saw her in the ensemble she was wearing long pants, a jacket & a cap that covered most of her hair so it really wasn't even obvious that she's a woman (maybe that was the point).
Sophia did not sing any solos while she was part of the ensemble nor did she do anything on stage that made her stand out from the rest of the group. I think her role at the point was just to add another voice to the songs the entire group sings.
BTW "Les Mis" is still a great show even after 21 years. I highly recommend it if you can pull yourself away from Mamma Mia!

You cannot really take the concert to value the show properly, you have to see it onstage in a theatre. While it is not one of my favourite shows it is certainly one musical masterpiece with some incredible melodies and lyrics. There are some cheap tickets in the front row available; might be a bit close when seeing it the first time if you do not wanna spend top price - or you go last minute as Les Mis is at TKTS available regularly.

she is supposedly leaving in January??? According to joampil.com, Jo Ampil takes over as Fantine on 29th January, so if anybody wants to see Sophia in the role, book quickly!

Just noticed this on www.playbill.com regarding the New York revival of "Les Miserables": "As previously announced, Daphne Rubin-Vega (who plays Fantine) will take a leave of absence from the epic musical Feb. 18-April 11, 2007, to star in Jack Goes Boating. Rubin-Vega's temporary replacement will be announced shortly." Since Sophia is leaving the West End version of "Les Mis" in late January, could she be crossing the pond to star on Broadway?

Sophia's going to be in Babes in Arms at the Chichester Festival Theatre (it's somewhere down south apparantly) from 29 May to 7 July. She'll be appearing alongside a certain Joseph Prouse too.
